My attempts at astro imaging

M81 & M82

This lovely pairing of galaxies in in Ursa Major, the large galaxy is known as Bodes Nebula and the small one at the bottom is a starburst galaxy – young stars are being born at the centre and it looks like the galaxy is exploding!

M81 is approx 21 million light years from us and M82 is around 12 million light years from Earth.

The image is 22×5 minute subs taken through my Skywatcher ED80 and captured with a QHY8 Cooled CCD on the 7th March 2010. The framing for this was way off as I centred on M81, leaving M82 at the bottom of the frame, hence the strange crop!
