My attempts at astro imaging

Cocoon Nebula

Well, that’s summer nearly over in Scotland and it’s dark enough to start imaging around 23:30…… So first image of the 2011 winter season is IC 5146 The Cocoon Nebula.  This is located in Cygnus which is near enough overhead at the moment and contains dark, reflection and absorbtion nebula all in one object!  The image is 15X 5 min exposures with a QHY8 and Altair Optics 8″ F4 imaging newtonian.  I do have a small problem with star shapes, this can be seen in the full size image but i’m pretty happy with it for a first night out under the stars of the season!
