My attempts at astro imaging

Horsehead & Flame nebula

I went back and re-shot this and am a lot happier with it – It’s 8X 15min subs, combined and tweaked in Pixinsight.

The Horshead is a region of dust in front of the glowing Hydrogen gas behind it, this gas is glowing due to it being ‘excited’ by the nearby Sigma Orionis.  The Flame nebula is similer with dust in front making the glowing dust behind look like a flame.  This region has to be the most amazing in the whole night sky, so much going on and the horsehead is a fantastic object, although to see visually you need very dark skies and a very big scope!
